Twin Music

Instrumentation: any two saxophones of the same type.

Twin Music consists of a set of short movements for two saxophones of the same register (e.g., two altos, two tenors, two sopraninos!). The movements may be performed in any order and in any subset; the numbering serves only as a suggestion. The work functions as a series of contrapuntal studies that interrogate a central premise of counterpoint—the independence of voices—by exploring degrees of coupling, fusion, and divergence between twin instruments.
